BEHIND the SEEN
Alice in Wonderland

Introduction
In this whimsical yet poignant reimagining of Alice in Wonderland, the story reflects the chaotic, non-linear experience of growing up in a place that is both home and a mystery. Alice, much like the artist who created her, is a young soul moving through the bustling city streets, negotiating the swirl of cultural symbols, history, and ever-shifting identities.

Set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s dynamic energy, this autobiographical tale draws inspiration from the artist's childhood—where constant movement, both physically and mentally, created a distorted sense of belonging. Like Alice, the artist experienced a hodgepodge of ideas and values: a mixture of East and West, past and future, reality and fantasy. The familiar characters of Wonderland are reimagined here: the tea party becomes a playful chaos of dim sum and bubble tea, where eggtart blossoms reign and dumpling flowers frame the scene. The iconic Cheshire Cat takes on the form of a traditional Maneki-neko, bringing an odd mix of luck and confusion.

At its core, this journey is an exploration of mental health, using the absurdity and nonsensical narrative to reflect the internal struggles of making sense of one's place in a fragmented world. The story captures the dissonance between feeling at home and yet entirely foreign—a shared experience for those who grapple with a multifaceted sense of identity.
